Above is a "Thanksgiving" prayer from the "YouVersion" Bible app that I received today. It's a powerful reminder of why our thankfulness to God is so important...especially this year!
It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is upon us! So many of you have plans to be with family. Some of you are traveling. Many of you have adjusted your plans out of caution or "just because"...and have decided to stay home for a small family celebration. And maybe some of you will be alone. Whatever the situation...this is quite a year to be thankful. Maybe not for all that has happened in the world around us...forest fires, Covid which has impacted many of us and our families and friends, a devastating hurricane season in so many places in the world. I'm sure there are many more things we could list. But then again...giving thanks to God isn't because life is always wonderful for us. Certainly, that is a good reason to give thanks, when that's the case! But giving thanks to God...especially on this Thanksgiving as we come to the end of quite the eventful year we've had in many respects...is because of God's presence in our lives in the midst of all that is going on. God's presence and goodness in the midst of all that happens to us, is what helps us to keep going...it's what gives us the hope we have as God's people. It's what gives us joy when people around us tell us we shouldn't be joyful. I read an article online yesterday that said, "you have permission to not be thankful this year." I was like, "What????"!
I pray that all of you have a very blessed Thanksgiving...however it will look for you! I am certainly giving thanks to God...as I have so often during these last few strange months...for all of you...for your support, love, care, encouragement and participation in our community of faith! God's richest blessings to all of you!
Surfin' on God's Grace!

I hope you are all doing well on this blessed and beautiful Reformation Day! Even though we celebrated Reformation last Sunday, today is the official anniversary of the Reformation...with All Saints Sunday being tomorrow...where we will remember and celebrate those who have died, not just within the last year, but also family members and friends who have been so meaningful to us!
And for Sunday morning...we are certainly hoping for another beautiful Sunday for our outside in-person worship this week! It was disappointing to be rained out again last week...but I think...I hope...I pray...that tomorrow will be another great day!
So...whether permitting...join us on Sunday morning at 10am! We will be gathering outside around the gazebo...so please bring your own chair and face covering! If you will be joining us from home, you can check out our Facebook Live and Zoom links below.
We will have masks and chairs available for those who forget them! We are requiring face coverings for the health and safety of all who attend our worship service. As you've probably gotten used to...when you arrive, please maintain the recommended 6 feet of distance from other family groupings! You will also see lines painted in the grass...those are to help with Holy Communion distribution and circulation...so please try to avoid setting up on one of those lines.
There will be tables set up, one along 3rd Ave., one near the corner of the playground near the shed and one near the office/rear entrance of the church, which will have a basket/box where offerings will be collected, worship outlines for the service (please take one!), extra masks if you forgot yours and hand sanitizer for your use. So wherever you end up parking and entering the worship space...we can accommodate you!
For those who have health issues and cannot be outside, or if it's too windy or chilly for you to stay outside...which is possible since it's November!...we invite you to come inside our sanctuary where seating has been arranged to maintain proper distance between family groups. We will be live streaming the service on a screen and there will be a speaker inside for you to hear the service. This way you can still see others who come for worship and can enjoy worshiping together in person!
Live Streaming: We are excited to continue to live stream our services for those who will remain at home, yet still want to be part of our faith community! Please see below for the links to access worship online! If you will be joining us through one of these options, you can print off the attached worship outline for the service to follow along!
Sign Interpretation for our Service: Jen Carter will be signing the service for those whose primary language is sign language. So if you know anyone for whom this would be joyful and meaningful, please let them know!
Financial contributions: Thank you for your contributions that support our ministry! We are grateful for your generosity! As a reminder, below are the various ways to contribute financially to our ministry. We are trying to provide a method that fits your lifestyle!
1: We have offering baskets located on tables as you enter our outdoor worship space! Place your offering in any of those when you arrive.
2: Drop off your offering in the offering plate at the entrance of the church or in the church office.
3: Mail your offering to us at:
Kure Memorial Lutheran Church
PO Box 1
Kure Beach, NC 28449
4: Set up KMLC as an automatic withdrawal from your bank account
5: Donate online...simply go to our website, kmlc.org and click the "online giving" button.
So many options to match your lifestyle!
You will find the worship outline for Sunday's worship here!
Check your email for livestreaming links to join us on Sunday morning or visit our Home Page for our Facebook Live streaming. We hope you will be joining us!
I am so much looking forward to seeing people in person as well as through our livestreams!
And by the way...be sure to set your clocks back tonight...and get that extra hour of sleep so you are energized for worship tomorrow!

Last Sunday we had some issues with our Zoom feed, but hopefully we have that situation resolved!
Live Streaming: We are excited to continue to live stream our services for those who will remain at home.
These last six months have been strange to say the least! Hello Family and Friends of Kure Memorial Lutheran Church!
About a month ago, in the wake of all the racial tensions growing throughout our country, you may remember that I sent an email inviting us all to ponder some questions as people of faith, as we reflect on our mission statement as a congregation ("As joyful followers of Jesus Christ, we welcome and care for all people, we boldly proclaim the good news, share our faith and love God by serving others.") as well as what our calling is to love and care for one another as people of God:
1) How can we as individuals, as well as a community of faith grow in our understanding of who we are as God's people? 2) What is God calling us to do in the midst of those tensions that continue to be so prevalent? 3) How can we better understand racism, as well as ourselves, and then extend our care, love and understanding to our brothers and sisters of all races and cultures in our communities?
And then, for those of you in our congregation who are interested in learning more and wanting to pursue a deeper understanding of racism, we invited you to be part of a team to review and identify resources that hopefully will be helpful in expanding our thoughts and actions, because we, as the body of Christ want to make a positive impact!
We have received some responses and have scheduled our first meeting for Thursday, October 8 at 6:30pm. If you are interested in being a part of this team, but have not yet responded, please reply to the email I sent; we would love to have you on our team!
Thank you all for your love and commitment to our congregation and community!

Hello Family and Friends of Kure Memorial Lutheran Church!
Our long awaited regathering for worship is finally here! Wahoo!!! Sunday morning, September 27 (tomorrow) beginning at 10am we will be gathering for worship in the church lawn area near the gazebo! Please bring your own lawn chairs and mask/face covering! We will have masks and chairs available for those who forget them! We are requiring face coverings for the health and safety of all who attend our worship service.
When you arrive, please maintain the recommended 6 feet of distance from other family groupings! For those who have health issues and cannot be outside, you may go inside our sanctuary where seating has been arranged to maintain proper distance between family groups. Hello Family and Friends of Kure Memorial Lutheran Church!
God's blessings on this wonderful, cool, Fall like Saturday!
We hope you will join us for worship this Sunday beginning at 10am as we continue to worship via Facebook Live and Zoom! Jen Carter will be signing the service again for our brothers and sisters in Christ who are deaf or have other hearing impairments! Please spread the word so other people who rely on sign language for communication will tune in regularly!
Also...Jen will be teaching the children...and the rest of us...how to sign a phrase about following Jesus in sign language...which goes right along with the theme for the day! So we hope you will join us!
We also want to remind you to join us for our beach service on Wednesday evenings out on the beach at the end of Ave. F in Kure Beach...about 1/2 mile south of the traffic light. Please take note...the time has changed to 6:30pm...due to sunset getting earlier! Bring your beach chair or blanket and spread out on the beach where there is (almost) always a cool breeze and the soothing sound of the surf to bring a sense of peace in the midst of an otherwise crazy week! It is very likely that we will be extending our beach worship season into October! So we'll keep you posted on that one as well!
You should have seen an email from me earlier in the week, that we will be beginning to meet in person outside for worship beginning next Sunday, September 27! Please bring your lawn chair and mask/face covering and join us for worship! We will have Holy Communion in a very safe/distanced format to make sure it's safe and meaningful!
Also, we want to remind you of the various ways to contribute financially to our ministry. These last five months have been strange to say the least! And without attending worship regularly, sometimes it's easy to get out of the routine of financially supporting the ministries that are so meaningful to you. "What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8)
Hello Family and Friends of Kure Memorial Lutheran Church!
You may have seen signs around Carolina Beach and Kure Beach with the words, "Hate has no home on our island". As Christians who are called by Jesus to, "love one another as I have loved you", I think we would all agree that hating others is not what Jesus would want from us, nor is it who we are as the body of Christ.
In light of the concerns that continue to grow around the issue of racial justice, the North Carolina Synod is encouraging congregations throughout the state to have conversations about racial justice and what God might be calling us as individuals as well as a church to do in response to it.
Our mission statement reads: "As joyful followers of Jesus Christ, we welcome and care for all people, we boldly proclaim the good news, share our faith and love God by serving others." It's a reminder for us at KMLC, of who we are as followers of Jesus...that we welcome and care for all people. We boldly proclaim the good news of Jesus, his love, mercy and grace for us. We share our faith through conversations as well as how we live our lives in the world around us. And through serving and loving others...we are showing our love for God.
Our mission statement seems to be a living out in many ways of this passage from Micah, which tied into the sermon from August 23! In a nutshell this verse says...to bring glory to God, God asks us to act justly toward all people. To love mercy...to be caring, loving, helpful, especially for those who struggle in life. And to walk humbly with God...allowing God to guide our lives in the ways he calls us to live as his people. Honestly...I think our community of faith does a pretty good job of this!
But in the wake of the racial tensions that are sweeping our nation, there are a few of questions for us to ponder and maybe even wrestle with.
We know there are people in our congregation who are interested in learning more and wanting to pursue a deeper understanding of racism. Our Service Team here at KMLC is inviting you to be part of a team to review and identify resources that hopefully will be helpful in expanding our thoughts and actions. There are so many resources out there! This team will help narrow down the field. We, as the body of Christ want to make a positive impact!
Please contact Terry Hambel here if you are interested or would like more information about this new team we are putting together.
Thank you all for your love and commitment to our congregation and community!

We also want to remind you to join us for our beach service on Wednesday evenings beginning at 7pm out on the beach at the end of Ave. F in Kure Beach...about 1/2 mile south of the traffic light. Bring your beach chair or blanket and spread out on the beach where there is (almost) always a cool breeze and the soothing sound of the surf to bring a sense of peace in the midst of an otherwise crazy week!
Also, we want to remind you of the various ways to contribute to our ministry...either drop off your offering in the offering plate at the entrance of the church or in the church office; mail to us at PO Box 1 in Kure Beach; set up the church as an automatic withdrawal from your bank account or donate online...simply go to our website, kmlc.org and click the "online giving" button. We appreciate your continued financial and support of our ministry together!
You will find the worship outline for Sunday's worship here! Hope to see you here!

Hello Family and Friends of Kure Memorial!
School is starting out different this year! But even with schools starting the first part of the year remotely, families in need still have school needs! We are making available 2 opportunities to help out our communities...Both Wilmington as well as Carolina Beach!
#1: The Good Shepherd Center in Wilmington, in combination with Nourish NC, is seeking assistance with collecting school supplies. If you are able to help, there is a bin in the church entryway labeled "School Supplies." Donations can be placed in the bin through this Thursday, August 13th. Whatever is collected will be delivered to the Center on Friday, the 14th. The following information from the Center's website provides some brief information about the project, as well as a list of needed supplies.
Good Shepherd is collecting school supplies to deliver to our friends in need, with help from our friends at Nourish NC.
School Supplies Needs List:
Pens
Pencils
Colored Pencils
Pencil Sharpeners
Markers
Crayons
Highlighters
Glue Sticks
Scissors
Construction Paper
Lined Paper
Spiral Bound Notebooks
Composition Books
Binders
Folders
Calculators
Backpacks
Supplies will be distributed in our community through Good Shepherd and Nourish NC distribution channels. We are so grateful for any donations you are able to make to help our students start a new school year off right! Whether in person or distance learning, every student will need these basic supplies to set them up for a successful school year.
#2: Carolina Beach Elementary School: Each year we have a Rice Bowl offering to collect funds for our youth group to go shopping for school supplies for our elementary school. Since we are not able to do that this year, you are still encouraged to provide school supplies for them! We will be collecting the following supplies for CB Elementary beginning Friday, August 14 through August 31. You may drop off the supplies in the church entryway and place them in the bin.
Supplies requested:
Clorox wipes
Tissues
glue sticks
crayons (8 or 16 packs)
#2 pencils.
Thank you all so much for generosity!

Hello Family and Friends of Kure Memorial!
God's blessings on this Saturday morning! As we are watching the storm track of Hurricane Isaias, it seems most likely that we will be getting some impacts from it.
I wanted to reach out to you all with regards to the following:
1. If you are in need of assistance in preparing for the storm, such as bringing in lawn furniture, boarding up windows if applicable, etc. please let me know and we will see if we can get some folks out to help you.
2. If you are willing and able to help others prepare their homes for the incoming storm (see #1 above! 😁) please let me know. I will set you up with someone who needs some help.
3. If you are willing to help prepare the church property...tying down garbage cans, bringing in BBQ grills, taking down the playground sign and the canopy in the playground, bringing in loose toys...things like that. Boarding up the front door of the church is still a possibility. We are meeting at 4pm on Sunday (August 2) to take care of these things. So if you are available, come on out to help out! Bring your face protection! We would love to see you!
Thanks so much! God's blessings to you all!
