Outreach Ministries
"Pleasure Island Help Center - Provides supplemental food help for those in need on the island. Ongoing food donations from congregation members are collected (per input on their needs). The Island Cottage Thrift Shop (which we also support thru donations) gives all their proceeds to the Help Center.
Good Shepherd Center - Good Shepherd provides meals and shelter for the homeless at their facility located in downtown Wilmington. The Center also helps clients find jobs and affordable housing. We provide support on a monthly basis in the form of food supplies for their on-site kitchen. Migrant Worker Kits – Personal care items are collected from congregation members to supplement the needs of these workers, done in conjunction with Church Women United. Greeting cards - Sent on a regular basis to our college students, service members, and folks who are on our prayer list. Sunday Lunch Ministry – Preparing, packing and providing lunches for those who are struggling in our community. We are always encouraging folks to help us make sandwiches, pack lunch bags and distribute to those who can use a little bit of help from time to time. Monthly Rice Bowl Offering – One Sunday each month the children help us receive a special offering that is designated primarily for local organizations who work with children and youth. Occasionally we will designate a global organization such as Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran Disaster Response, or our Costa Rica Mission with the Lutheran Church of Costa Rica! Lutheran Disaster Response Lutheran World Relief Costa Rica Companionship - Casa Abierta: A Lutheran run day care center in La Carpio, an impoverished community in San Jose. Through prayer, financial support as well as periodic visits we continue to develop and strengthen our relationships with the children and staff. Micro Loan Project: Providing small loans to individuals and groups to help them to improve their businesses to more adequately provide for their families and community. Community Garden – Offering garden space for folks in our church as well as our community. The object is to share a portion of what is grown with our local food pantry and Sunday Lunch Ministry.
